Neurodermatis & Chronic Stress

By Mirko Albrecht

Anamnesis: Mrs. S. (age 24) has skin disease Neurodermatis/Atopic eczema. She has several symptoms such as:

  • Many skin-inflammations
  • Itches
  • Sore skin (raw skin)
  • Some foods intolerances

Treatment: Stress is a very variable parameter. Overwork, hectic lifestyle, all these is stress. But Neurodermatis, including skin-inflammation and food intolerance also may cause stress, especially chronic stress. We are all human beings but each human being is a special individual, just like all the stress forms, stress consequences and of course each treatment is quite different.

Stress can make you ill, this is fact! But existing chronic illnesses/complaints such as in my case study also trigger stress in the body and worsen the complaints.

If we give patients with chronic stress f.e. induced from Neurodermatis/Atopic eczema "classic" anti-stress supplements such as amino acids f.e. Tyrosine, L-Theanine or stress hormone boost the situation of Neurodermatis will get worse. Catecholamine will be stimulated and the secretion increases. In this case it is better to give something which the catecholamines level typical of chronic stress decreases.

My Recommendation & Background Information in this Case

Calcium-AEP: Calcium AEP is not a "classic" calcium dietary supplement. Calcium AEP stands for Calcium 2-amino ethyl phosphoric acid (Ca-AEP or Ca-2AEP). Ca-AEP decreases water solubility and seals the lipid cellular membrane pores, decreasing the permeability of the outer cell membrane by foreign substances. This action protects cells from invasion by toxins, bacteria, viruses, antibodies etc.. Calcium AEP can help make cells more resistant to inflammation. In many cases, Calcium AEP can help making cells more resistant to inflammation. AEP also modulates the immune system. My individual dosage in this case was in the morning 1000 mg, at midday 1000 mg.

Quercetin: Quercetin acts directly on the intestinal tract to reduce reactions to dietary allergens. It inhibits production of histamine by stabilizing basophils and mast cells. Quercitin may help reduce the body's release of symptom-producing histamine.

Histamine is directly responsible for most of the unpleasant symptoms associated with allergies. My individual dosage in this case was 1000 mg in the morning and 500 mg evenings.

Multi-Vitamin/Mineral Complex with ester-c (without copper and low folic acid): Without copper is important, because chronic stress may body level of copper increase. Neurodermatis is classified with chronic inflammation of the skin. These also may causes high cooper in blood or/and serum. Copper has directly relation to catecholamines (stress hormones) and increases the level. Important is a low folic acid dosage, because Folic acid (high dosage) may more food intolerance reaction and other Neurodermatis symptoms.

AHCC: AHCC has a rich source of polysaccharides. These polysaccharides (beta-1,3-glucan and activated hemi cellulose) i.a. are an ideal immune modulator. AHCC can reduce stress-induced high Adrenaline or Cortisol. My individual dosage in this case was 1000 mg/day.

My diet recommended for the patient: Absolutely avoid these food products because contains high histaminic and another individual allergic foods (allergy test) by Mrs. S.

  • Yeast (bread, pizza, toast etc., all form with yeast)
  • Fresh spinach
  • Cheese such as blue/gorgonzola, parmesan, gouda, edammer, brie cheese (and other type)
  • Tomato concentrate
  • Generally alcohol, especially red wine
  • Vinegar especially from red wine, balsamico, vinegar essence/concentrate
  • Pork meat has an high concentration of a fatty acid called arachidonic acid which causes inflammations. Autoimmune disease or reactions (food intolerance) could get worse
  • Dark chocolate (because it contains high concentration of copper)
  • Instant coffee (contains high concentration of copper)

Result: After 3 weeks, the symptoms, especially itches got better. In general the skin got better and it was not so inflamed. The healing process of the sore skin began.

We could realise with certainty that Neurodermatis worsening decreased also under daily stress situations instead of increasing.
